Of all of the sports offered at Ramsey High School, it’s safe to say that varsity football is one of the most popular, even among those who don’t play. Friday night lights and rivalry games foster an incredible sense of community, and this season, the team seemed to be making its way, slowly but surely, through the 2025 playoffs.
On November 7 at the Panthers’ field, Ramsey defeated Glen Rock in a huge blowout of 41-7. This allowed the Rams to reach the sectional final, which was a first for the team since 2010.
Evidently, this win was huge for Ramsey. Next up was their long-awaited rematch with Westwood, against whom they had previously lost on October 17 at a home game by a score of 34-7.
On November 14, the Rams entered the match with an 8-2 record, and the Cardinals with a 10-1 record after their 24-8 win over Caldwell. It was an away game played with hundreds in attendance on a cold and dry night. The game started with Ramsey kicking off to Westwood in the first quarter. Not long after, Westwood scored with a 55-yard rushing touchdown. The team then opted for a 2-point conversion, which was successful, pushing the team to lead 8-0 by the second quarter.
Minutes later, the Cardinals had scored again with a 41-yard fumble return touchdown and another 2-point conversion, bringing the boys up to a new 16-0 lead. The first quarter ended shortly after, followed closely by two more rushing touchdowns in the second and third quarters by Westwood. With their additional conversions, they were now up 32-0, and Ramsey’s morale appeared low.
With eight minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Rams managed to score a 1-yard rushing touchdown to make it onto the scoreboard. They made an attempt at a 2-point conversion, which failed and left the score at 32-6, which lasted until the final whistle.
Despite their unfortunate loss, Ramsey is proud of its football team for making it as far as they did! It’s still an incredible experience to witness our own students from the stands represent our town on the field.
For those interested in trying out for the team, it is a great opportunity to develop not only as a skilled athlete but also as a resilient individual who thrives both on and off the field. The team emphasizes the importance of hard work, strategic thinking, and continuous improvement, fostering an environment where every player can reach their full potential.
