Since I could remember it’s always been Halloween and then everyone goes straight to Christmas. That used to never really be an issue for me since I did love Christmas and that season overall because let’s be honest, the vibes are always there. However, as I’ve gotten older, I have really learned to appreciate Thanksgiving, but I don’t think the world has, at least the world around me.
From TikTok to airports, I have seen nothing but Christmas lights, cookies, and present wish-lists. It is as if we have skipped over a full holiday, no, we have skipped over the full month of November. People take this time to craft the best Christmas list instead of crafting the perfect menu served at the end of the month. It is sad though because people miss out on a holiday with great energy and do I have to mention the food? Mac & cheese, stuffing, bread, and look I’m not a big fan of turkey, but the ham is amazing. The idea of spending time with your family being thankful for one another, eating great food, why are we just overlooking that for a month?
I love the Christmas season. I love the lights and I love the snow. I love winter, but we are skipping a full holiday. It should be mentioned that after Christmas, there is New Year’s Eve a couple days after and then there’s not much to look forward to until Easter, 3-4 months away. But with Thanksgiving, you get the good food, you get great family time, and you still have Christmas and you have New Year’s Eve to look forward to. Two great holidays look forward to after Thanksgiving, so why are we skipping to a time where there is not much after. Why are we not just living in the moment? Living for the fall vibes and looking at the colorful ambience around us. Thanksgiving is a great holiday. I will stand by that. Do I understand why people get so excited for Christmas? Yes. Do I understand why people are excited to get festive during that time? yes, but Thanksgiving is not worth being skipped over.
Thanksgiving is a very overlooked holiday. It is a time for thanks, it is a time for good fall energy, cute outfits and we still get to look forward to the festive season. Good food, and a good future. What can you ask for?

Hi, my name is Hannah Kanter, and I am a junior at Ramsey. I’m so excited to be part of The Ram community, especially as the Sports and Events Editor, where I get to help share the spirit of our school. I’ve always loved writing—English has been my favorite subject for as long as I can remember. At Ramsey, I’m involved in several clubs, including DECA, Yearbook, Student Congress, and National Honor Society, and I play on the Girls Varsity Tennis team as well as serve as the Goalie for the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team. Outside of school, I work at Camp Gaw, where I’ve been a customer service representative for the past three years. This year, my goal is to help spread Ramsey spirit beyond our school walls so stay tuned for more stories—and Go Rams!
