On November 23rd the Ramsey Girls Soccer Team won the Group 2 State Championship finishing their season with a perfect 25-0-0 record. The Ramsey Rams defeated Allentown 3-0 and even scored 2 goals in the first 2 minutes of the game! This game was truly electric to watch and the girls celebrated with a team trip to Brady’s at the Station and a home town victory parade! Sophomore, Hope Ernst was one of the 3 people who scored this game including herself, Lizzie Rubin, and Kendall Reid. Below is a descriptive interview about the game from the sophomore protege.
¨Even though
the day started off a little rocky, I wouldn’t change anything about it. From the first step we took onto the field, something felt different from every other game. It was a new field and a new place, but the same team, the same fans we’d had all season, and the same energy. The first 20 seconds were so unexpected and unplanned; however, our hard work all week made what happened feel almost inevitable. We could never have pictured a better start to the state final. The intense pressure from Julia Zeug and Kendall Reid made the first goal come so fast. As the ball deflected back to me at the top of the box, I had a clear line to goal and took it. Most teams give me my left foot because I’m a righty, so I took the opportunity to shoot. The goal felt great, but it was still second to the incredible start our team had created. Coming onto the this field with a 24-0-0 record and a state final on the line, we had a portal history to make too. Trying to block that out and just play our game was difficult, but once we scored the first goal, everything became more natural. Then, when a through ball from Lizzie landed right at my feet, I got to the baseline and passed it across the goal to Kendall, and I was sure she was going to put it in the back of the net to make it 2–0 just two minutes into the game. Before the goals, we were tense—trying to play our game but afraid of what one mistake could do. But once we were up 2–0, our true game came out. It felt like all the other games: the ones we played for fun, with our friends on the field and in the stands. Later in the half, Lizzie Rubin sent in a great corner that was just tipped by the goalie. I worked to keep it in and passed it back out to Lizzie, who hit a top-corner shot to make the score 3–0. We hadn’t had a better start to a game all season, and we did it in the state final. By the second half, we could settle in the back and truly feel comfortable, feel like the game was in our control. Brooke Dallara, Emmy Bender, and Emma Steele made sure we kept a clean sheet. Once the clock ticked down to 00:00 and we all rushed together, it hit me that we were state champions, a title we had worked for all season, and that we had made history for our program.¨
Once again congratulations to the Girls Soccer Team on their impressive season!
