The Ramsey girls Lacrosse team has demonstrated significant improvement over the last three years. Ramsey, in fact, did not have a lacrosse team until 2014. As a result, the current seniors on the girls team have a special connection with the program, as they have taken part in building it since their freshman year.

In beginning the long road to success, The Rams knew they would be facing teams who had years of experience, while some of their players would be picking up a stick for the first time. They had their work cut out for them, but were ready to tackle the challenge.

After three seasons filled with hardships, the lady Rams have seemed to find their step. They are currently 7-2 and are coming off a county tournament victory against Paramus 19-11, led to victory by Senior Captains, Rhiannon Brown and Ali Martin.

Rhiannon, who will continue her lacrosse career at Montclair State University stated: “The team has changed dramatically since my freshman year. Most of us used to struggle with the basic fundamentals of the game, but we have come a long way.” She also noted how hard working and determined the team is due to the close relationships among the players. This attitude of persistence has led to the continued success of the team.

Despite the fact that the majority of the team is made up of seniors, they have a bright future ahead. Over the past four years there have been an increasing amount of underclassmen taking the field for the varsity squad. Rhiannon talked about them stating, “there are younger players who don’t have as much varsity experience but can still play at the varsity level and be successful.” Although they are young, and under a new coach, Mr. Tavolacci, look out for Ramsey Girls lacrosse as they continue to improve.
