The Founding Fathers were afraid of the Executive Branch of government abusing its powers, so they made impeachment a fundamental part of the United States Constitution. Fast forward to 2019, and the House of Representatives has just launched an official impeachment inquiry into the 45th President of the United States: Donald J. Trump.
Rumors of impeachment have been plaguing President Trump since he first assumed office in 2017, but the rumors have now become reality. Whistle-blowers are coming forward and accusing President Trump of pressuring the Ukranian President to dig up dirt on his political rival, Joe Biden.
In a nine-page complaint, one whistle-blower alleges that Trump tried to withhold $391 million dollars in aid to Ukraine unless they start an investigation into Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Although the White House claims this was no quid pro quo, it certainly sounds like one.
Let’s take it one step further. If Trump did pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, wouldn’t that be considered interference in the upcoming 2020 Presidential election? It certainly seems like Americans are growing more and more concerned about this administrations’ cover-ups. A new poll released on October 9th by the Pro-Trump Fox News network shows that 51% of American voters favor impeachment. Could it be that these latest transgressions by Trump have turned the tables?
But if this isn’t enough, let’s take a walk down memory lane. Trump admitted numerous times that he fired FBI director Jim Comey partly over “this Russia thing.” How about his infamous comment defending white supremacists at the Charlottesville rally in 2017? Trump stated that there were “very fine people on both sides.” This comment was stated after the tragic death of a protester. Would the President of the United States make fun of children? Of course, he would! Greta Thunberg was recently mocked by our great President simply because she’s trying to save the earth. Apparently, clean air and fresh water aren’t as exciting to our President as is his popularity on Twitter. What would the founding fathers do with a President like this? In light of these recent allegations, the answer is simple: Impeach.
