The Best Christmas Songs

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” It’s December, meaning it is officially the holiday season, and what’s the holidays without Christmas music! Whether it’s with Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas or the classic Jingle Bells, Christmas music floods radio stations as people begin to get ready for the holidays. Here are a few of our favorite Christmas songs for you to listen to this holiday season!

Number 1: Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe

Now you may think that this is a joke, but what better way to spend the holidays than with the lead single from Justin Bieber’s album Underneath the Mistletoe. While the song is far from the classic Christmas songs everyone knows and loves, it’s catchy and repetitive making it a fun song to get stuck in your head through the entire holiday season. The soft holiday bells along with the upbeat guitar make a perfect Christmas song to listen to and sing along with.

Number 2: Let It Snow (Dean Martin)

What better song is there to listen to next to the fireplace (or the grocery store) on a cold winter night than Dean Martin’s “Let it Snow”? Martin tells a story about spending quality time with a loved one. The lyrics contrast the frigidness of the storm with the warmth of the indoors.  Even if the weather outside is “frightful” that should not stop everyone from being together. This song can be enjoyed by everyone but its themes of love and closeness make it an especially good song for couples.

Number 3: Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song

This song will definitely make you feel like a little kid again. The laid back tempo and older tune of the song creates the perfect cozy atmosphere. By sprinkling in familiar allusions of Christmas tales, Cole evokes nostalgia in listeners and accentuates the fantasies of the holiday season. After having a listen to this track, you too will remember why you found  “it hard to sleep” that Christmas night.

Number 4: Michael Bublé’s It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

The holiday season is the time of year when singer Michael Bublé has a hold on most households, bringing with him his hit Christmas album, Michael Bublé Christmas. Without a fail, it climbs the charts of the Billboard Hot 100, leaving a lasting impression on the American Christmas tradition. It’s nearly impossible to go through the entire holiday season without hearing this song multiple times as it is such a popular song. Besides its objective popularity, this song reminds us of the wonder that comes with the decorations and cheerful ambiance, flooding the town with Christmas joy!

Number 5: The Chipmunk Song

“Christmas Christmas time is near!” We are not sure whether this song is actually good or if it is just immensely catchy, but this is certainly a song way too many people know the words to. The song is upbeat and fun, known by all ages even if reluctantly, and thus is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. If you’re not a fan of upbeat Christmas songs, the older version of the song is slower, but still equally as good, reaching number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on August 4th, 1958.

Number 6: Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You

Last but not least, our queen Mariah Carey. Everywhere you go, from malls, to restaurants, to even in your car, you will hear this song. If you don’t have the lyrics stuck in your head come January, we praise your resilience. This year alone, “All I Want for Christmas is You” has been streamed over 31.5 million times, and at the time it wasn’t even December! This song has ranked #1 in the Billboard’s Hot 100 in four decades, which is why it shouldn’t be a surprise that it is one of our favorites. Carey sings about how she doesn’t want the presents or anything that comes with Christmas if she didn’t have a lover to call her own. What is it that you want this Christmas?
