Black Panther is the Movie We All Deserve

I, along with the rest of the world, have been eagerly awaiting a movie about Black Panther ever since the character was introduced in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. As an avid fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I knew that this was going to be yet another intense, incredible superhero blockbuster; however, I had no idea how much more Black Panther was going to be. Not only was it my favorite Marvel movie of all time, it may just be up there on a list of my favorite movies of all time.

Black Panther is truly groundbreaking, a glorious, gorgeous celebration of black excellence and black culture. The film centers around Prince T’Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman, and his transition to becoming king after the events of Civil War. T’Challa is the ruler of the African country of Wakanda, a supposed third-world country that is actually far more advanced than any other nation in the entire world. As the ruler, T’Challa is granted special powers and acts as the Black Panther, a superhero dedicated to protecting Wakanda from the outside world.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther boasts stunning visuals, amazing writing for all of its characters, and an incredible soundtrack with original songs by Kendrick Lamar. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, Danai Gurira, and Forest Whitaker lead an all star cast. Michael B. Jordan steals the show as Killmonger, the villain who journeys to Wakanda in an effort to usurp T’Challa and take the throne, and Letitia Wright is an immediate fan favorite as Shuri, T’Challa’s vivacious younger sister.

What is so amazing about this movie is the fact that the cast is made up of primarily black actors. It is so important that these diverse, multifaceted, characters provide representation for the black community, and Black Panther is one of the few movies of our time that accomplishes this. Whether you like superhero movies or not, I encourage you to give Black Panther a shot. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
