Kim and Kanye Welcome 3rd Child, Chicago West

On January 15, 2018, at 12:47 AM, a bright light came through during these dark times of government shutdowns and winter blues. Celebrity personalities Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West welcomed their third child, an Aquarius girl, into the world. The newest addition to the Kardashian-West clan weighed in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and was named Chicago after the city where rapper Kanye grew up. Kim and Kanye are already parents to four-year-old daughter North and two-year-old Saint and are reported to be loving their new life as a family of five.

Due to her pregnancy complications with her other two children, Kim opted to have Chicago, nicknamed Chi (pronounced Shy), through a surrogate. Kim suffers from preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and damage to certain organs, which meant that her becoming pregnant and delivering a child would be extremely detrimental to her health. To protect that identity of her surrogate, Kim has refused to publicly name who carried Chicago for those nine months, explaining that she does not want her surrogate to have to deal with the public pressure.

Although the name Chicago has sparked controversy among the public, the Kardashian-Wests are used to this scrutiny from their first two children. The names North, Saint, and Chicago are unusual to say the least; however, Kim, as the strong and independent woman that she is, does not let this criticism influence her. She is notorious for her love of her family, and anyone who knows the family understands this. Due to the fact that I have three sisters, I can comfortably say that I have watched enough of Keeping Up With The Kardashians to feel invested in Kim’s life, especially her relationships with her family. All I can say is that I am happy for Kim and Kanye and congratulate their newest addition to the family!
